4:30 pm - Alpine area?

Ahoy, West Texas lj folks! I'm just wondering how alive this community is (since within the last ~10 posts, it was 2005) and if there are any lj people in Brewster county these days. No, it's not a Sul Ross connection, but if anyone has advice about Alpine and the surrounding towns, I'd love to hear more about the area - I moved out here a few months ago but tend to not get out much (house is a fixer-upper). Hopefully that will change!

6:41 am - Storage Facilities

Can someone please refer me to a storage company in El Paso? My stuff will only be there a month, but I don't want to worry about theft while I'm in CA.

Lubbock Community Theatre announces auditions for
"A Little Princess"  directed by Heather Rushing
Audition dates are Monday & Tuesday, October 13, 14 at 7:00 at the LCT Boston Avenue Playhouse at 4230  Boston Avenue.
Performance dates are December 5-7, 12-14.  There will be a total of 8 performances including Saturday and Sunday matinees.
    Roles available:
    10 girls --ages 7-15
    2 boys--ages 7-15
    4 adults female roles
    5 adult male roles
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. If your child is worried about reading from the script, it is suggested that he/she bring a short poem or short monolgue to perform.
There is one singing role-and that role is the role of Sara Crewe
"A Little Princess" is based on the beloved children's story by Frances Hodgson Burnett and was later adapted into a Shirley Temple movie.
When her mother dies, Sara Crewe is sent from India, where she was born, to a private school in London.  She is banished to the garret when news arrives of her father's loss of fortune and his disappearance. With a creative imagination and sprited optimism, Sara survives to become an inspiration to boys and girls everywhere.
This is a perfect show for the entire family.
If  you have anybody that you think would be interested in this , please tell them about the auditions and if they have questions, they can call Heather at 474-2995 or email her at h.rushing@gmail.com
"A Little Princess" will be presented at the Underwood Center for the Arts in the beautiful Firehouse Theatre.

8:08 pm - Soon-to-be-West Texan

Though this place seems a little bit dead, I thought I'd go ahead and say my hellos. :)

I'm MaryAshley, a resident from in and around San Antonio, Texas, and I'll be a freshman at Sul Ross next fall. I've worked with the state park system and I'm a big outdoors person, so SRSU seemed like the best in-state small school choice for me. I hear that partying tends to be the hobby of choice out there, but hopefully I can keep myself at least partially entertained with hiking and horseback riding. (Plan on taking my horse out to school with me.)

I'm hoping there's some decent diversity at Sul Ross. I've paid my dues with the redneck rodeo, FFA, and 4H people around town here, but I tend to enjoy spending time with my neo-hippie/nerd crowd now more than anything. You West Texas kids aren't ALL hicks, are you? ;) --- I'm sure that's a drastically annoying stereotype.

It'd be great to hear from anyone in the area.

6:23 pm - Seminolian

Yea, I'm the 52nd member. 52 is my favorite number. Did you know Texas was the 52nd state to join the union? Heh, just kidding. How long did I have you going? .52 seconds?

I'm from Seminole. Woo-hoo! I left in '01 and came to California for college. I've come to the conclusion that I did this JUST because my sister hates Texas, and I wanted to be able to tell her I'd tried other places. I wish I'd stayed in Texas. I love Texas. I plan on going back after I graduate. I'm thinking Austin. Because I want to work in a publishing house.

Okay, who knows any of the following: Walter Wright. Shayne (sp?) Childers (and his notorious wife...Marla? At least I think that's her name). Michael Matlock. Eric von Hindman. Brett Farr. Jeff Wall. The Talley boys. Shawn Bell. Robert Stovall. Jeannette Groll.

In my head, I'm still in high school. And no, I do not consider this a good thing, if you were wondering.

Does anyone else think Abilene would be a good name for a girl?

Shawn Mullins does a song called Levelland. And it's really about Levelland, TX. It's originally by James McMurtry.

Lyrics, anyone?Collapse )

11:10 pm - people!

I'm (plus my bestfriend and another) planning to move to Alpine by this summer to go to Sul Ross Uni. I'm in Houston and have been for all of my life, and from numbers i get from pages Alpine is gonna be way diffrent.

Does anyone live there currently and can tell me about how it is there? I noticed there aren't many asian people people there, and i should really expect diversity and all. But it's not anything like KKK, right? I know it's stupid but here everything's mixed, you dont worry about stuff like that (you just worry about assalt, muggings, ect).

it'd be cool if somone could help me out.
